One thing at a time
Doing multiple things at once diminishes your focus and your energies.
While eating food, don't watch TV.
While working, don't watch Netflix.
While chilling, don't open your emails.
While reading this thread, don't focus on anything else.
Do things slowly and purposefully
Don’t rush.
Keep things easy.
Take your time and make your actions purposeful, not rushed and random.
Don’t move on to the next task until you’re finished
If you move on to the next task without finishing what you were already doing,
What makes you think you'd complete the next task and not bounce off again?
Do less
Doing less doesn't mean being idle and wasting time away.
It implies the fact that you have limited time on this planet,
So be conscious and selective with what you do,
And give in your 100% in any and every job you do.
Smile and serve others
Smile, well because it's self-explanatory.
Nobody, including you, would like anyone with a frown on his face 24*7.
And serve others, because life can't just about be about you and your well-being only.
Devote time to sitting
Sit by yourself and do nothing. Just observe.
People are afraid to be alone because they never make peace with their thoughts,
And they keep running away from them all their life.
Designate time for certain things
Time blocking is something that's also widely used by Elonmusk.
Block your time and designate a task,
And do just that tasks for that period of time.
Might sound simple, but it's crazily productive.
Put space between things
Can you guess what the modern-day term is for this practice?
Pomodoro.
Clearly, zen masters were ahead of their time.
You gotta take a break between activities to refreshen and rejuvenate yourself.
Make cleaning and cooking like meditation
These two are really important parts of a Zen monk’s day.
SO, if you feel like you are having a bad day,
Just performing those two activities with your utmost focus and attention can really turn your day around.
Live Simply
There is a certain thrill and excitement chasing a lavish lifestyle,
But nothing beats enjoying the ordinary and making the most of a simple lifestyle.
Luxury can only give you a temporary high,
But enjoying the simplicity of life gives you everlasting joy.
Rise above your Ego
Kôdô Sawaki once said: “You are not important.”
And when you see how insignificant you actually are in the great span of things,
You automatically rise above your Ego.
Ego isn't the enemy. Giving more importance to it than required is the enemy.
Think about what is necessary
Every successful person has trained his mind to only focus on the necessary and essential stuff,
And cut down the useless fluff that doesn't add any value.
Watch what you say
Your word is your bond.
If you can't even keep the promises you make to yourself,
How on earth will anyone ever be able to take you seriously?
Be aware of what you say, and stand by it no matter what.
Live in the moment
Meditation is a great tool to become aware of the present moment.
It will help you free yourself from the grips of past regrets and future worries.
Remain humble
Anyone with even an iota of understanding of the world,
Will know how vast the world is and how much more there is to know.
When you acknowledge this simple truth,
You automatically become humble.
When an opportunity comes do not let it pass you by
Opportunities don't fall out of the sky for nothing.
Make sure you make the best of them.
But at the same time, always think twice before acting.
Do not act blindly.
Have the fearless attitude of a hero and the loving heart of a child
One should never bid adieu to his inner child as life's too short to be too serious.
And well, your attitude dictates how you interpret your situations,
So you might as well don a hero's attitude.
The right way of sleeping and waking up
Upon retiring, sleep as if you had entered your last sleep.
Upon awakening, leave your bed behind you instantly as if you had cast away a pair of old shoes.
Eat Mindfully
When you eat to satisfy your bodily hunger,
That's all well and good.
But when you start eating to satisfy your mind hunger,
That's when things start getting fishy.
Be conscious of what you are intaking.
Smile, breathe, and go slowly
This probably sums up the entire Zen mentality.
What could you possibly not do if you follow this one simple rule?
Smile, to keep your mood fresh.
Breath, to stay completely aware.
And go slowly, because rushing doesn't make anything better.
